Physique of climber lacking since 1986 found on melting Swiss glacier

The stays of a German man who went lacking whereas climbing close to Switzerland’s iconic Matterhorn mountain 37 years in the past have been recovered.

DNA checks confirmed the stays belonged to the 38-year-old, who went lacking in September 1986.

The discovery was made by climbers mountain climbing alongside the Theodul Glacier in Zermatt on 12 July, police within the Valais canton mentioned.

“DNA analysis enabled the identification of a mountain climber who had been missing since 1986,” police mentioned in a press release.

“In September 1986, a German climber, who was 38 at the time, had been reported missing after not returning from a hike.”

The police didn’t give particulars in regards to the man’s id or the circumstances of his demise.
