Greta Thunberg charged after being dragged away by police

Greta Thunberg has been charged with disobeying a police order after being arrested by officers at a protest in Sweden final month.

The environmental campaigner, 20, may withstand six months in jail if convicted of the offence. However, it’s extra possible that she’s going to as a substitute be fined, if discovered responsible.

It comes after Thunberg was arrested after allegedly refusing to depart the demonstration in Malmo on June 19. Eco activists had reportedly blocked oil tankers on the southern port metropolis.

Thunberg was pictured being hauled away by two law enforcement officials. Swedish prosecutors have confirmed that she was charged as a result of she allegedly “refused to comply with police orders to leave the scene”.

During the protest, Thunberg posted on Instagram: “The climate crisis is already a matter of life and death for countless people. We chose to not be bystanders, and instead physically stop the fossil fuel infrastructure. We are reclaiming the future.”

However, Swedish prosecutor Charlotte Ottosen mentioned: “You have the freedom to demonstrate, but you must not demonstrate in such a way that it causes disturbances for others.”

Thunberg will reportedly face a trial on the finish of this month.
