Reporter confronted with ‘bogus costs’ spends birthday in jail on Putin’s orders

American journalist Evan Gershkovich has been pressured to have fun his thirty second birthday alone in a Russian jail cell after being arrested on Putin’s orders.

The Wall Street Journal reporter was taken by the infamous Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) final on March 29 whereas staying within the metropolis of Yekaterinburg.

Charged with spying, Gershkovich has been locked away within the feared Lefortovo jail in Moscow whereas awaiting trial.

Gershkovich is the primary Western journalist to be held in Russia on espionage costs for the reason that fall of the USSR.

If discovered responsible, the 32-year-old might resist 20 years in jail.

The jailed journalist’s sister has made a determined attraction for his launch.

Danielle Gershkovich mentioned: “We want him home, every day that Evan is in prison is a day too long.”

Both the Wall Street Journal and the US Government have rejected Russian claims that Gershkovich was spying.

Russian authorities have but to provide proof to help their allegations.

The US authorities has branded the fees towards Gershkovich as “ridiculous”.

Danielle Gershkovich has mentioned that US President Joe Biden has promised “he’s going to get Evan home.”

She mentioned: “So we’re relying on the government, but of course, Evan isn’t here today so the job’s not done until he’s sitting with us.

“So we simply have to stay robust and do our half on our finish.”
